TUI NA

Tui Na (China)

Tui Na (Tui = “to push”; Na = “to lift and squeeze”) is a form of manipulative therapy in Traditional Chinese Medicine that has its origins in the Shang Dynasty of China in 1700 BC. The practitioner treats the areas between each of the joints, known as the eight gates, to attempt to open the body’s ‘qi’ (energy flow) and get the energy moving in the meridians (Chinese Meridians). Techniques include gliding, kneading, friction, vibration, percussion, pulling, rotation, rocking, and shaking, and may be gentle or quite firm. It can involve some manipulation techniques to realign the musculoskeletal system, but most Western trained Tui Na practitioners do not do “bone setting”.

Tui Na massage is a fully clothed treatment that is carried out on a massage bed, stool or even a chair.
